Engagement Sessions at the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden

Looking for a great location for an engagement session in the Santa Barbara area? Maybe you're looking for a location that isn't on the beach? One of my favorite places to recommend to my couples is the Santa Barbara Botanical Garden.

Santa Barbara Botanical Garden

The Santa Barbara Botanical Garden is a 78-acre living museum designed entirely with California native plants. It is one of my favorite places to visit, as well as to photograph because it is absolutely beautiful! There are over 5 miles of trails to explore with a wide variety of settings.

During this engagement session with Sophia and Jeff, we walked the trails from the chaparral to the redwood forest, to the San Ynez Mountains. I recommend my couples do at least a 90-minute engagement session so we have plenty of time to get to explore without needing to rush. Plus - it gives you more time to get comfortable in front of the camera and for us to get to know each other!

Planning Your Engagement Session

So what are the logistics of an engagement session at the Botanical Garden? In order to take professional photos here, you will need to pay a small fee of $100. The garden asks that you fill out a quick application ahead of time and bring it with you to the session. The fee goes directly back to the mission of the garden and the organiziation!

Timing is important to think about when planning your session. In my opinion, spring is the best time of year for an engagement session when the wildflowers are in bloom. Definitely plan for a weekday at sunset to avoid the crowds and get the best lighting!
